A population of roe deer has established itself in the Hörnli Cemetery in Basel. This population is completely enclosed, but is breeding, and the number of roe deer is expected to reach around sixty by the end of 2022. The damage they are causing to flowerbeds and ornamental plants is becoming increasingly significant. The City of Basel wishes to reduce this population. The Franz Weber Foundation has proposed capturing the roe deer and relocating them to other cantons.
HEPIA was mandated to carry out these captures. These were carried out using the panel method, i.e. the use of vertical nets. The entire roe deer population at Hörnli was thus successfully relocated.
